It is a medium sized to large tree to 42 m tall. The bole is usually straight and cylindrical, but sometimes poorly shaped, with flutes or bosses. It is branchless 30 m, up to 150 cm in diameter, sometimes with small buttresses.
This tree is found scattered in rain-forests at low altitudes, usually in well-drained locations.
It ranges throughout Andaman Islands, South-east Asia, northern Queensland to New Guinea, New Britain and Solomon Islands.
Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally vessels in radial multiples of 4 or more common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits in size and shape. Occasionally intervessel pi Axial parenchyma aliform. Axial parenchyma confluent. Occasionally prismatic crystals in non-chambered axial parenchyma cells. Occasionally prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. 5 to 8 cell 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Ray height more than 1 mm. Larger rays more than 4 seriate. Prismatic crystals in radial alignment in procumbent ray cells (chambered cells). Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cel Fibers very thick walled. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The sapwood is pale yellowish-white or straw-colored. The heartwood varies from yellow-brown to pale brown.
The grain is usually straight, occasionally slightly interlocked.
Texture of this species is moderately fine.
The wood is durable under cover, but non-durable when exposed to the weather or in contact with the ground.
