Description Of The Tree
Botanical Description
The tree reaches a height of 35 m. The bole is straight and up to 13 m in length. Low buttresses are present. The trunk diameter attains 100 130 cm.
Natural Habitat
Microberlinia bisulcata is a fairly gregarious species found in evergreen forests. It occurs often on sandy soil and in rain forests. The wild population has been or is inferred to be in decline(50% in 5 years or 2 generations or for a small population 20

Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more (large). Vestured pits. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits Axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Axial parenchyma lozenge-aliform. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Rays and/or axial elements irregularly storied. Rays exclusively uniseriate. Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Body ray cells procumbent with one row of upright and/or square marginal Non-septate fibers. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The sapwood is whitish, it has a thickness of 10 cm. The heartwood is pale yellow brown, with thin and numerous dark brown veins, it is clearly demarcated.
