The tree reaches a height of 50 m, with trunk diameters up to 130 cm. The bole is cylindrical and straight, from 16 to 20 m in length.
Poga oleosa is reported in the dense equatorial forests, often along riverbanks and coastal areas.
Distributed from Nigeria to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more (large). Non-vestured pits. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits i Axial parenchyma aliform. Non-crystals in axial parenchyma cells. Over 9 cells per parenchyma strand. Rays less than 4 per mm (rare). Rays of two distinct sizes. Rays non-storied. Larger rays more than 4 seriate. Rays exclusively uniseriate. Heterogeneous rays and/or multiseriate heterogeneous rays. Non-septate fibers. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

Straight or slightly interlocked, sometimes with an influence on further processing operations.
The wood is mostly coarse in texture.
Moderately durable to decay. Without preservative treatment, this species can be used only under risk of occasional re-humidification. It is not suited for uses with risks of permanent or long-lasting humidification. Sensible to termites attack. The heart
