The trees are reported to reach heights of up to 40 or 45 m, with trunk diameters of up to 150 cm. The boles are straight and cylindrical, with commercial lengths of about 21 m.
Cariniana estrellensis is reportedly on of the biggest trees in tropical America. It is found in primary forests, on humid, deep soils, it is rarely found in the cerrados.Not enough information available to apply the criterion.(CITES,?,1997)
It is commonly found in the forests of tropical America. The species is reported to be distributed northern South America southward to Peru and Bolivia.

Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Axial parenchyma reticulate. Prismatic crystals in non-chambered axial parenchyma cells. Rays less than 4 per mm (rare). Rays non-storied. Rays 1 to 4 seriate. Silica bodies in the ray cells. Prismatic crystals in the ray cells. Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Non-septate fibers. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
