The size of the mature tree is reported to be medium to large, attaining heights of 20 to 30 m, and trunk diameters of about 40 to 50 cm. Occasionally, narrow buttresses are reported.
Centrolobium trees are distributed in Central and South American tropical rain forests.
Sometimes it presents brittle blackish zones.
Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 to 150 micras (small). Vessels per mm2 10 to 20 (abundant). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits in size and shape. I Axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Occasionally axial parenchyma aliform. Axial parenchyma storied. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. Two 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays storied. Rays exclusively uniseriate. Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The heartwood is yellow to orange beige, clearly differentiated from the yellowish sapwood. Occasionally fine dark veins are reported.
