Shorea ridleyana King
It is a medium-sized to large tree up to 60 m tall, with boles up to 145 cm in diameter, and short stout buttresses up to 1.5 m high.
Shorea faguetiana is often found on well-drained clayey soils on ridges and undulating land. The wood is utilized as yellow meranti timber.
Wood diffuse porous. Vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more (large). Tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/or foraminate. Simple perforation plates. Intervessel pits smal Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Axial parenchyma aliform. Axial parenchyma confluent. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Larger rays more than 4 seriate. Sheath cells. Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Body ray cells procumbent with one row of upright and/or square marginal cells ( Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The heartwood is light yellowish-brown, often with a greenish tinge, darkening to brown on exposure. The sapwood is moderately distinct from the heartwood.

It has interlocked grain.
The texture can be moderately fine to moderately coarse.
It is not a durable timber, and susceptible to attack by dry-wood termites, and slightly susceptible to pinhole borers.

Silica Content: Silica is reportedly absent.
This species is reported to be very difficult to treat with preservatives.

Bored surfaces of air-dried timber are rough probably because of the presence of interlocked grain.
The nailing behavior of this wood is considered as good to fair, pre-boring recommended.
It glues well but some difficulties are reported with alkaline glues.
For exterior applications preliminary application of DD varnish is recommended, then a transparent or clear varnish.
It is recommended to fill the pores before painting or varnishing.
