The tree reaches a height of 35 m. The bole is straight and cylindrical, has thin buttresses. The trunk diameter attains up to 130 cm.
Cynometra ananta is common in wet areas of evergreen forests.
Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Vestured pits. Vessels per mm2 6 to 10 (medium). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel p Axial parenchyma in discontinuous tangential lines. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Rays and/or axial elements irregularly storied. The sapwood is pink-brown or yellow, it has a thickness of 2.5 to 7.5 cm. The heartwood is dark red-brown with fine markings, it is clearly demarcated.

The wood is reported to be frequently medium textured.
It is reported to be low in luster.
Durable to decay; this species can be utilized without preservative treatment for exterior joinery or similar uses. Resistant to termites attack. Heartwood is resistant to Lyctus attacks.
