The trees are reported to reach heights of 28 to 40 m, with well developed buttresses.
Enterolobium schomburgkii is reported from the sea level up to 1,100 m of altitude. It prefers non-inundable sandy soils.
Species in this group are reported to occur from Mexico and Guatemala, through Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay.

Axial parenchyma confluent. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays 1 to 4 seriate. Occasionally septate fibers present. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The heartwood is pale brown to golden yellow beige, sometimes with purplish brown veins, different from the pale yellow sapwood.
