Description Of The Tree
Botanical Description
Medium to large, 15-30 m in height and up to I OO cm in diameter. Bark dark brown or grey with shallow cracks; exfoliating in thin flakes, on injury exudes a red gummy substance.
Natural Distribution
Southern moist mixed deciduous, Moist teak bearing, West coast semi-evergreen and Southern dry mixed deciduous forests

Occasionally wood semi-ring porous and/or ring porous. Occasionally tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more. Occasionally vessels per mm2 less than 6. Vessels in radial multiples of 2 to 4. Occasionally vessels with colored deposits. Axial parenchyma oblique and/or sinuous. Occasionally axial parenchyma confluent. Occasionally rays exclusively uniseriate.

Color
Sapwood pale yellowish-white, heart-wood golden brown or reddish brown on exposure. Aqueous extract of wood is characteristic yellowish-blue and fluorescent.
