The trees are reported to reach heights of 25 to 35 m, with trunk diameters ranging from 45 to 100 cm, even up to 180 cm. They develop well-formed and cylindrical boles that are up to 12 to 15 m long.
Prioria copaifera is a gregarious species, reported to occur in the lowland regions, where it is often found in pure stands.
It is distributed from Nicaragua to Colombia

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 150 to 200 micras (medium). Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits in size and shape. I Axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays 1 to 4 seriate. Heterogeneous rays and/or multiseriate heterogeneous rays. Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The sapwood is clearly differentiated from the heartwood. The heartwood is medium to light brown in color, attractive streaks are also reported.
The wood is straight-grained.
The texture is rather fine and uniform.
Wood surfaces are typically dull.
It is vulnerable to attack by the white-rot fungi, and is rated as non-resistant to decay.
