It is a medium sized deciduous tree, growing up to 24 m tall, usually with a short clear bole of about 6 m in length. It is often fluted.
It is reportedly the strongest wood in Sri Lanka.
Colored deposits in heartwood vessels. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Simple perforation plates. Axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Prismatic crystals in non-chambered axial parenchyma cells. Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent).

The wood is yellowish brown to pale reddish brown.

The texture of the wood is fine.
It is non-durable in contact with the ground.
