The trees are reported to reach heights of 30 m, with trunk diameters ranging from 70 to 80 cm. They develop straight and cylindrical boles up to one third of the total height. It presents small buttresses up to 50 cm tall.
The natural growth range of this species is all the basin of the Amazon river.
In Peru it is reported to occur in the departments of Pasco, Huanuco, Loreto, Junin and Puno.
Vessels per mm2 more than 20 (very abundant). Vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Occasionally axial parenchyma absent or extremely rare, non visible with magnifying glass (8x). Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates.

The sapwood is differentiated, it is pinkish white, the heartwood is reddish brown when dry.
The grain is frequently interlocked.
Texture is reported to be medium to coarse.
Luster is described as moderate to high.
