Medium to large, 18-25 m in height, and up to 120 cm in diameter. Bark blackish, mottled with black and green, rough with warty excerescences.
West coast tropical evergreen and Southern hill-top tropical evergreen forests; widely cultivated
Wood diffuse porous. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more (large). Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Vessels in radial multiples of 2 to 4. Tyloses common. White deposits in heartwood vessels. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Axial parenchyma aliform. Rays 1 to 4 seriate.
