Description Of The Tree
Botanical Description
It is a large to very large tree, up to 65 m tall. The bole is branchless for up to 30 m, up to 250 cm in diameter, without buttresses.
Natural Habitat
Dyera costulata occurs in primary lowland or hill forests, in well drained locations, up to 300 m of altitude.

Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally vestured pits. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits in size and shape. Intervessel pits small, 7 micras or less. Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Fibers with distinctly bordered pits.
