Description Of The Tree

Botanical Description

It is a dioecious, large to very large tree up to 60 m tall, and 100 cm in diameter. The bole is branchless for a considerable length, with broad buttresses up to 3 m high.

Natural Habitat

Triomma malaccensis is found scattered mainly in primary lowland rain forest, rarely in secondary forests, up to 400 m of altitude. Not enough information available to apply the criterrion.(CITES,?,1997)

Anatomic Description Of Wood

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits coarse throughout the ray cell. Intervessel pits medium, 7 to 10 micras. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Septate fibers present. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
