Eugenia polyantha Wight
It is a medium-sized tree up to 30 m tall. The bole is up to 60 cm in diameter.
Syzygium polyanthum is found in lowland primary and secondary forests, up to 1,300 m of altitude.
The wood is rich in tannins.
Tyloses common. Vestured pits. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits coarse throughout the ray cell. Intervessel pits medium, 7 to 10 micras. Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Axial parenchyma winged aliform (uni or bilateral winged). Axial parenchyma confluent. Prismatic crystals in non-chambered axial parenchyma cells. Occasionally prismatic crystals in chambered 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays of two distinct sizes. Larger rays more than 4 seriate. Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Occasionally septate fibers present. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
Unrestricted
The heartwood is pale brown to purplish brown color, with a purplish tinge. The sapwood is paler in color.

Texture is usually fine to medium.
It is non-lustrous.
The heartwood is reportedly impermeable, but the sapwood is more amenable to preservative treatment.
