It is a medium-sized to fairly large evergreen tree up to 36 m tall. The bole is straight and branchless for up to 25 m, up to 85 cm in diameter, with short buttresses.
It is fairly common in evergreen lowland or hill forests, in a range between 600 to 1,100 m of altitude.
Wood diffuse porous. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more (large). Colored deposits in heartwood vessels. Tyloses sclerotic. Tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/or foraminate. Simple perforation plates. Inter Occasionally axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Axial parenchyma winged aliform (uni or bilateral winged). 3 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Larger rays more than 4 seriate. Occasionally sheath cells. Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The sapwood is light yellow or straw, clearly demarcated. The heartwood is orange or olive-brown, darkening with age.

The grain is deeply interlocked, fibrous.
The wood is typically medium in texture.
Pinhole borers often attack the sapwood, but the timber is resistant to termites and considerably resistant to marine borers.
