It is a medium-sized to large evergreen tree up to 45 m tall. The bole is up to 115 cm in diameter. The buttresses are short or up to 3 m high.
It can be found in evergreen forests on well drained level and hilly locations, up to 900 m of altitude.
This species is widely planted in Indonesia for its fruits.
Wood diffuse porous. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more (large). Colored deposits in heartwood vessels. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/or foraminate. Simple perforation plates. Axial parenchyma aliform. Axial parenchyma confluent. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Larger rays more than 4 seriate. Sheath cells. Oil and/or mucilage cells associated with the axial and/or ray parenchyma (idioblasts). Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kri Septate fibers present. Fibers with distinctly bordered pits.

The heartwood is orange yellowish-brown, sometimes with an olive-green tinge, generally darkening considerably on exposure and usually well defined from the paler sapwood.

The grain is often deeply interlocked.
The texture is moderately coarse.
The wood is non-durable to moderately durable, somewhat resistant to termite attack. It is susceptible to powder-post beetle attack.

Timber of this species presents residual stresses.
The heartwood is untreatable. The sapwood of keledang is reported to absorb preservatives readily.
