Description Of The Tree

Botanical Description

Small to large trees up to 55 m tall. The bole is straight or twisted, branchless for 30 m and up to 200 cm in diameter. It presents buttresses up to 4 m high.

Natural Habitat

Mastixiodendron occurs from the sea level up to 1,100 m of altitude in primary and secondary forests. It is sometimes reported in swamp forests in pure or nearly pure stands.

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels in diagonal and/or radial pattern. Vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Vestured pits. Vessels per mm2 more than 20 (very abundant). Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/or foraminate. Vascular/vasicentric tracheides present. Simple pe Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Axial parenchyma in narrow bands on lines up to 3 cells wide. Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Rays exclusively uniseriate. Body ray cells procumbent with one row of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-III). Fibers with distinctly bordered pits.
