The mature tree is small to medium, attaining heights of 10 to 18 m, and trunk diameters of about 40 to 60 cm.
Ferreirea spectabilis is reported in primary forests, growing in a wide range of soils. It is found in semideciduous and in the Atlantic rain forests of Brazil.
This species is found in Brazil in the Atlantic rain forest from Bahia to Sao Paulo. It grows also in the Parana basin, and it is found in the states of Minas Gerais, Goias, Sao Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul and Parana.
Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Axial parenchyma aliform. Axial parenchyma confluent. Rays storied.

The sapwood is yellow color, different from the heartwood which is brown with dark streaks.
