It is a large tree, up to 30 m in height, with diameters over 100 cm and clean, straight boles of 13 to 15 meters long
Vessels in diagonal and/or radial pattern. Vessels exclusively solitary (over 90%). Tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/or foraminate. Simple perforation plates. Intervessel pits medium, 7 to 10 micras. Axial parenchyma aliform. Prismatic crystals in non-chambered axial parenchyma cells. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. Axial parenchyma in narrow bands on lines up to 3 cells wide. 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays of two distinct sizes. Ray height more than 1 mm. Larger rays more than 4 seriate. Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The sapwood is not clearly differentiated from the heartwood. The heartwood is red brown, dark brown or yellow brown and the heartwood is sometimes redder than the sapwood.

The grain is straight to interlocked, sometimes wavy.
The texture is medium to coarse.
The wood is considered as durable, but it rots in contact with the ground.
