Nectandra rubra is found in primary forests in northern Brazil and the Guyanas. It is reported to prefer sandy or loamy soils.
The species is reported to occur in the Guyanas and the lower Amazon region of Brazil.
Wood diffuse porous. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 150 to 200 micras (medium). Tyloses thin walled. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits larger than the intervessel pits. Intervessel pits large, 10 micras or more Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. Rays less than 4 per mm (rare). Rays 1 to 4 seriate.
