Macaranga riparia Engl
It is an evergreen, dioecious, small to medium-sized tree up to 30 m tall. The bole is straight, up to 50 cm in diameter, occasionally with stilt roots, rarely with buttresses.
Macaranga is usually a common element of secondary forests.
Medicinal properties are reported, probably due to the tannin content.
Wood diffuse porous. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more (large). Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Occasionally tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Vessel-ray pits Occasionally apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Occasionally prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. The heartwood varies from pale yellow-brown to pale brown or gray-brown, sometimes with a pinkish tinge, not clearly differentiated from the sapwood.

This species is rated as non-durable, but it is moderately resistant to dry-wood termites.
