It is a medium-sized tree.
Relatively widespread but uncommon, this timber tree is scattered in primary lowland rainforest. It is known or inferred that the harvesting of specimens from the wild for international trade has, or may have, a detrimental impact on the species by EITHE
It occurs mainly in areas where intense logging is being carried out, such as New Britain and New Ireland in the Bismarck Archipelago and the north-west of Papua New Guinea.
Wood diffuse porous. Vestured pits. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to intervessel pits in size and shape. Intervessel pits small, 7 micras or less. Occasionally axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. Occasionally 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. Axial parenchyma bands more 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Prismatic crystals in radial alignment in procumbent ray cells (chambered cells). Prismatic crystals in the ray cells. Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Body ray Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The heartwood is brown, dark brown or reddish-brown. The sapwood is lighter brown, and distinctly demarcated from the heartwood, especially in freshly in freshly cut trees.
The grain is usually straight or interlocked.
The texture is fine to very fine.
It is reported to be more or less lustrous.
The timber is rated as durable in contact with the ground or weather.
