Pimelodendron papuanum Warb; Daphniphyllum conglutinosum Hemsl.
It is an evergreen, dioecious, small to medium-sized tree up to 30 m tall. The bole is branchless for up to 15 m, with diameters of 80 cm, often fluted at base.
Pimelodendron amboinicum grows scattered in primary lowland to submontane evergreen rain forests up to 1,800 m of altitude. It is often found on sites where natural disturbances have occurred.
Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally vessels in radial multiples of 4 or more common. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less (very small). Occasionally tyloses common. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Occasionally prismatic crystals in non-chambered axial parenchyma cells. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. 5 to 8 cells per parenchyma strand. Over 9 cel Rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Ray height more than 1 mm. Occasionally silica bodies in the ray cells. The heartwood is cream, pale yellow-brown or gray-white, not clearly differentiated from the sapwood.
It has straight grain.
Texture of this species is moderately fine and even.
It has very little or no natural resistance to decay when in contact with the ground.

Ease of Drying: Boards of X. fusca 13 mm and 38 mm thick take respectively 3 and 5 months to air dry. Drying Defects: There is moderate risk of cupping, bowing and stain.
