It is a medium-sized to fairly large tree, up to 36 m tall and diameters of 80 cm, without buttresses. It is planted as a shadow tree.
Wood diffuse porous. Colored deposits in heartwood vessels. Tyloses common. Vessel-ray pits reticulate and/or foraminate. Simple perforation plates. Intervessel pits large, 10 micras or more. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Occasionally axial parenchyma aliform. Occasionally prismatic crystals in non-chambered axial parenchyma cells. Occasionally two cells per parenchyma strand. 3 to 4 cells per parenchyma strand. 5 to 8 ce 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Occasionally rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Prismatic crystals in the ray cells. Body ray cells procumbent with mostly 2 to 4 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-II). Body ray cells procumbent with one row o Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The sapwood is not clearly differentiated from the heartwood, which is pale brown with a pinkish tinge. It has a dark brown core with black streaks.
The grain is reported to be straight or interlocked.
The texture of the wood is frequently coarse.
The heartwood is reported to be durable against biological attack.
