Flindersia chatawaiana F. M. Bailey
Trees up to 45 m tall, with a straight and cylindrical bole up to 100 cm. It is branchless up to 21 m, buttresses up to 2 m are reported.
Flindersia species are generally found scattered in well drained, evergreen rain forests or monsoon forests, from the sea level up to 2,700 m of altitude.
It can be found in Northern Queensland.
Wood diffuse porous. Occasionally tangential diameter of vessel lumina 100 micras or less. Occasionally vessels with colored deposits. Vessels per mm2 5 to 20. Occasionally vessels per mm2 less than 6. Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits similar to inter Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. Occasionally two cells per parenchyma strand. Occasionally axi 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Occasionally larger rays more than 4 seriate. Prismatic crystals in radial alignment in procumbent ray cells (chambered cells). Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Fibers very thin walled. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

Sometimes it presents a honey-like fragrance.
The sapwood is grayish. The heartwood varies from pale brown to flesh pink.

The grain is often interlocked and may also wavy or curly.
The texture is medium.
The wood is reported to have a natural silky luster.
The wood is very durable when not in contact with the ground, but it is susceptible to attack by ambrosia beetles.

The heartwood is resistant to preservative treatment, but the sapwood is permeable.

Ease of Drying: Seasoning is rather difficult. Drying Defects: It is prone to collapse, internal checking and warp. Kiln Schedules: Schedule suggested for Australian species. For New Zealand material USFD schedule T6-D2 and UK schedule E are recommended. Air seasoning is advisable before careful kiln drying, including reconditioning.
