Descripción botánica

The trees are reported to reach heights of 20 to 30 m and even 40 m, with trunk diameters ranging from 60 to 90 cm.

Hábitat natural

Myrocarpus frondosus is reported in a wide range of habitats, except the cerrado formation. It is a canopy tree found in primary and secondary forests. In Brazil it is also reported in the Atlantic rain forests and in the semideciduous forests of the Para

Distribución natural

This species occurs in Bolivia and Brazil, where it is reported to be more abundant especially in the state of Parana.

Descripción anatómica de la madera

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels per mm2 more than 20 (very abundant). Intervessel pits small, 7 micras or less. Axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Axial parenchyma lozenge-aliform. Two cells per parenchyma strand. Rays storied. Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Non-septate fibers.
