DESCRIPCIÓN DEL ÁRBOL

Descripción botánica

It is often about 25 m in height, with a trunk diameter of about 50 to 70 cm. It has a commercial length of 17 m. The boles are straight and cylindrical boles, with small buttresses up to 1 m high.

Hábitat natural

Cariniana domestica is found in well drained, non-inundable areas of the Amazonian tropical rain forest.

Distribución natural

This species is reported in Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia and Perú.

Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 150 to 200 micras (medium). Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Helical thickenings in vessel elements present. Simple perforation plates. Vessel-ray pits Axial parenchyma in continuous tangential lines (included in reticulate and scalariform). Axial parenchyma storied. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and/or in fibers. Siliceous bodies in the axial parenchyma cells. Axial parenchyma in na 4 to 10 rays per mm (medium). Rays commonly 2 seriate. Body ray cells procumbent with one row of upright and/or square marginal cells (Kribs-III). Crystals in fibers. Fibers with distinctly bordered pits. Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.
