Pouteria reticulata occurs in mixed lowland tropical and subtropical rain forests, in a range between 100 to 1,500 m of altitude. In Venezuela it is reported to grow grouped in formations called "chuponales".
This species is reported to be widely distributed all over the tropical and subtropical forests in Central and South America.
