The trees are reported to reach heights of 24 m in the average, with trunk diameters of 60 cm over the buttresses. They develop straight, or sometimes fluted, boles that are up to 10 m long.
Pentaclethra macroloba is found along the rivers and streams, and also in low hills.
This species is reported to be common in the tropical rain forests of Central America and northern South America.
Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 150 to 200 micras (medium). Occasionally vessels with colored deposits. White deposits in heartwood vessels. Occasionally vessels per mm2 less than 6. Simp Axial parenchyma in marginal or in seemingly marginal bands. Apotracheal axial parenchyma diffuse and/or diffuse in aggregates. Paratracheal axial parenchyma scanty and/or vasicentric. Occasionally axial parenchyma lozenge-aliform. Occasionally axial parenchy Occasionally rays more than 10 per mm (abundant). Rays exclusively uniseriate. Homogeneous rays and/or sub-homogeneous rays (all ray cells procumbent). Fibers with simple to minutely bordered pits.

The sapwood is pink, the heartwood gradually changes into reddish brown.
The direction of the grain is straight to slightly interlocked.

This species has moderate to high luster.
This species is resistant to termites attack and it is not affected by wood staining fungi.
