The tree attains a height of about 30 to 35 m, with diameters of 90 cm. The boles are straight, with commercial lengths of 10 to 20 m. It presents small or no buttresses.
Pterocarpus vernalis grows in a wide variety of habitats in the tropical American forests. It is found in primary and secondary forests.
P. vernalis is reported from Southern Mexico to northern Argentina.
Wood diffuse porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. Tangential diameter of vessel lumina 200 micras or more (large). Vessels per mm2 less than 6 (rare). Simple perforation plates.
